"E Bairàv Ensemble" - literally "The Ensemble of the Wind" - for more than ten years has devoted its work to the study of the musical traditions of the Balkan countries, which have been researched by Bartok and Kodaly since the beginning of the last century, when they contributed significantly to the birth of ethno-musicology.
After partecipating in several festivals, it received very enthusiastic acclaim from audiences and critics alike, and it published the CDs "Pulcherrima Ignota" - tribute to the gypsy music of the world and "The Music of the Wind" with the Orchestra "I Virtuosi Italiani".
"E Bairàv Ensemble's" previous project was dedicated to Béla Bartók and based on unpublished and original compositions, which are inspired by the musical thought of the great Hungarian master.
Paying homage to a giant of music through composing could be a big challenge. With this in mind, "E Bairav Ensemble" has approached this work, inspired both by Bartok's pioneering attitude to merge the western classical music and popular styles and by his mastery of rework melodic and rhythmic elements within complex musical forms.
The title of the project is "#1 Cratere Bartok". This name comes from a depression on the surface of the planet Mercury, so called in honor of the great composer. It represents for us a kind of "virtual crater" constantly boiling. Here, popular elements, classic forms, Eastern Europe traditions, european and american contemporary influences, composition and improvisation, constantly mix up, blend, change, by creating a heterogeneous mixture of sound in which the differences merge into a coherent and solid language.
