"E Bairàv Ensemble" - literally "The Ensemble of the Wind" - for more than ten years has devoted its work to the study of the musical traditions of the Balkan countries.
After partecipating in several festivals, it received very enthusiastic acclaim from audiences and critics alike. It has released the CD "Pulcherrima Ignota" - tribute to the gypsy music in the world and "#1 Cratere Bartok" (CD/DVD Limenmusic (Warner/Chappell)). This is a special tribute to the great Hungarian master. It is made up of original compositions. This project has recently been presented in world premiere at the "Teatro alla Scala" in Milan.
The members of the group, following a strong need for renewal, have decided to support the quartet with strings.
As a consequence, it has began a collaboration with the orchestra "I Virtuosi Italian", which produced several tours and a subsequent recording "La musica del vento", with original arrangements by Matteo Santini. The repertory comes from both traditional balkan music composers such as Balazs, Csoka, Layos, Dinicu, and unknown popular composers. There are also new original compositions in "gipsy" style.
It is a poignant music and at the same time overwhelming, its strength lies not only in its overflowing lyricism but also in its euphoric restlessness. It is performed by combining the individual experiences of the musicians with the 'tzigana' praxis, characterized by expressive melodic inflections of "rubato" and "glissando", a typical rhythmic momentum and by frequent and sudden dynamic changes.
These features are enhanced by the partnership with strings, which are fundamental in the musical culture of the countries of Eastern Europe.
